Joyceville Public School Newsletter
February 2026
Hello Joyceville Families,
February is a full and exciting month at JPS! Please take a few minutes to review the important updates and upcoming events below.
2026–2027 School Year Calendar Survey
Closes Monday, February 9 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon)
The Limestone District School Board is developing the 2026–2027 school year calendar and is seeking community feedback.
With Labour Day falling later than usual in 2026, creating a balanced and consistent calendar has presented more challenges than typical years. While there has been interest in introducing a fall break, due to the way the calendar falls and contractual agreements, this is not an option for 2026–2027.
Four calendar options have been prepared in collaboration with:
• Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board
• Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board
Families are encouraged to review the options and complete the short survey before Monday, February 9 at noon.

Parking Lot Safety Update
Student safety remains our top priority.
To improve safety and traffic flow:
• Staff are now parking from the back of the lot toward the middle.
• Signage will soon designate staff and visitor parking areas.
• Visitor parking will be located only along the cedars at the top of the lot along Joyceville Road.
When entering the parking lot, parents should immediately turn left.
If no visitor spots are available:
• Please exit the lot and park along Joyceville Road.
We ask that families not create parking spots in areas that are not designated for parking.
In the near future, buses will begin parking in a different format at the end of the day, which will further prevent parking in undesignated areas.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our lot safe and orderly for everyone.
Kindergarten Registration is Now Open

Black History Month
Each year, Black History Month honours the experiences, achievements, and enduring contributions of Black communities in Canada, while deepening our collective understanding of their history and impact on Canadian society.
This year’s theme is:
“30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.”
This theme celebrates three decades of Black History Month in Canada and recognizes the enduring legacy of Black Canadians whose leadership, creativity, innovation, and resilience have shaped our past, continue to influence our present, and inspire future generations.

Food at School – Supporting Inclusive Celebrations
Joyceville Public School’s approach to food brought into the school is guided by Limestone District School Board Administrative Procedures and reflects our commitment to student well-being, equity, and high-quality learning environments.
During the school day, our priority is learning. To support this, Joyceville is continuing to move toward celebrations and special events that do not involve food being brought into classrooms.
This approach:
• Maintains consistent routines
• Protects instructional time
• Ensures all students can participate comfortably and fully
Celebrations focused on connection — such as games, performances, creative activities, spirit days, and community-building experiences — strengthen belonging while reflecting our values of inclusion, dignity, and equity.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are proud of the positive, caring community we continue to build together at Joyceville Public School.
